Start a league and its first season

Leagues are run from an account. Open Leagues from the You menu on a phone, or the sidebar on a tablet or computer, and tap New league. It comes with Season 1 and one division, Division 1. The rest of the setup is in the league's Command center, under League.

Step by step

  1. Create the leagueOn Leagues, tap New league. Enter a name and web address, pick a format, choose who can see it and its home venue, and tap Start the league.
  2. Set the datesOpen the league, tap Command center, then League. Under Dates and match nights, set the first and last night, the match nights and any nights off, then tap Save dates.
  3. Bring in the teamsShare the join code so captains can start their own teams, or tap Add team on the league's Teams tab.
  4. Make the scheduleUnder Schedule, choose whether each pair plays once or home and away, tap Make schedule, check the weeks, and tap Save schedule.
  5. Set the start timeUnder Start time, turn on Lock nights automatically, set the start and the time zone, and tap Save start time.
  6. Start the seasonOn the Season card, tap Start season and confirm. Captains can then set line-ups and enter results.

Formats and who can see it

FormatA night
US mixed 501 and CricketSingles, doubles and a team game
Cricket nightThree legs a pairing, a point each
Chicago night301, Cricket and 501 a pairing
UK singles and pairsSix singles and two pairs

The format fills in the season's rules. To change them, tap Change next to Rules on the Season card, before or during the season; see Run your league for what a change during the season does. Anyone with the link makes the tables and results public; Members only keeps the league to its players and organizers. You can change this later in the League view.

Where the league plays

Under Home venue, pick None for now, one of your own venues, or Somewhere else and type the name and town. Later, in the League view, you can pick any venue on the app. Each team can have its own home too: on the Command center's Teams tab, tap Edit next to the team.

  • A venue you run, as its owner or a manager, is linked at once.
  • Any other venue's owner and managers are asked to confirm. Until they do, the League view says Waiting for the venue to confirm, and the venue's page doesn't list the league.
  • If the venue says it isn't its league, the league keeps the venue's name as a place typed in, without a link, and the venue can't be picked again unless it changes its mind.
  • If a place you typed in turns out to be a venue on the app, the League view offers Link it, and the venue is asked to confirm.

Divisions and teams

Add divisions under Divisions in the League view. The schedule pairs teams within each division. The Join code card has Share and New code; a new code stops the old one and every shared join link. Captains can keep starting teams with the code after the season starts unless you set Sign-ups close, and a team that starts after the schedule is made isn't in it. After that date, players can still join a team but wait for approval. A player who joins a full team, or is added by a captain to a full team, waits the same way, until an organizer taps Approve on the Teams tab or in the Command center's To do list.

Before you start

The Season card lists what's left: at least two teams, the dates and match nights, and a saved schedule. Without a start time, captains or organizers lock each night by hand. Once results are in, the schedule can't be made again; move a single night with Postpone or move on its page instead.

Starting a season can't be undone. From January 1, 2027, a league's second season onward needs the League plan.
