How league handicaps work
Organizers turn handicaps on from the Season card in the Command center: tap Edit next to Handicaps. Under From, pick Ratings or Start scores. A game's handicap is worked out when the night locks and stays fixed for that game. Changes apply from the next lock; games already locked or played keep theirs, and the settings say how many.
From ratings
Each player has a rating: points per dart (PPD) for 01 games and marks per round (MPR) for Cricket. In doubles and team games a side's rating is the mean of its players'.
- A player starts on the start rating the organizers set for them, or else their average from the league's earlier seasons, or else the default: 18.0 PPD and 1.8 MPR unless the organizers change it, for the league or for a division.
- For the season's first weeks (Weeks on starts, 3 unless changed), everyone plays on their start rating.
- After that, a player's own games blend into their rating from their 6th game (To start blending), and the rating is theirs alone from their 16th (To establish).
- Substitutes and guests: Never below default, which is the setting unless the organizers pick Own rating, keeps them from rating below the default.
- 01 games: with the default method, Proportional, the lower-rated side starts on a lower score. Reverse raises the stronger side's start instead; Difference and Tiers take points off the weaker side.
- Cricket: the lower-rated side gets spot marks, placed from 20 down with the bull last. Handicaps apply to Cricket on the standard and Tactics boards only.
From start scores
Organizers set each player's start in the Start scores list, for the game picked under Scores are for, such as 501. Other games scale it: 451 in 501 is 271 in 301. A player without one starts on the game's start, and a side starts on its players' mean. Starts stay between 101 and 1501, and carry over to later seasons. Start scores apply to 01 games only.
What players see
While a night is locked and being played, each game in the Play list shows its handicap under the players:
| Line | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Team A starts on 345 | That side starts on a different score from the game's start. |
| Dan R. starts on 271 (451 in 501) | A start score set for 501, scaled to this 301 game. |
| Dan R. gets 6 marks | Cricket spot marks before the game starts. |
Games where both sides start the same show no line.
